Hello to all, This month I am Honoring PSG Vicente Perez who killed in action 13 August 1968. He was Platoon Sergeant of the Recon Plt assigned to Echo Company 5th Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment. I have received some things to put on his pages from his Son Dale Perez who is also an SFC assigned to the 82nd ABN. Dale said that he will try to make the reunion this year at Ft. Benning, Ga., I have just received a Redcatcher Newspaper dated Feb 15, 1969 and it will take me some time to get it up on the site since I have to do scanning and typing. If you were assigned to E Co 5/12 during the time SFC Perez was there come by the site and take a look also all of you are envited to drop by the link to the site is above. Take Care Clay

Really enjoyed talking to a few guys I totally forgot the names of these past few months. The E-Mail pictures From Greg Nelson brought back some great memories of friends. I was wondering about one friend in particular, Veto Levechio(not positive of the spelling) He was from New York and we became pretty good friends at Blackhorse. This was after I got out of the field. Lifted weights occasionally, laughed along with lots of guys about our female mascot dog named _unt. Would love to hear from anyone who has had any contact with Veto or who just wants to drop a line.

Thanks, Jim McClarnon

WENT BACK TO VIETNAM IN JULY '68 AND SERVED AS AN ADVISOR WITH THE 18TH ARVN DIVISION AT XUAN LOC. LEFT THERE IN JUL 69. WHEN I JOINED THE UNIT AT FT. SMALL WHO COMMANDED D TROOP, 17 CAV DIDNT EVEN HAVE HIS ARMOR ASSETS AT THAT TIME. IT WAS A GREAT BRIGADE AND IM PROUD TO HAVE SERVED WITH THE BRIGADE.

Hi Guys!! It's been awhile since I signed on... just wanted to catch up with everyone... Thanks to everyone who emailed me after I posted the news that my Mom had passed away in April and who sympathized with me when I couldn't make it to the Reunion due to my son's graduation. I received my legacy from Mom in December and used it to pay cash for a big, beautiful townhouse here in Lexington where my main view is woods with a lake nearby so I can go kayaking after work! It was very important to me to have this home because one of the comments my VerySoonToBeExHusband made in January, 1997, was that 'without [him] I would be a bag lady living under a bridge somewhere'. Knowing the high percentage of Nam vets who are homeless, this comment terrified me because I knew it could come true. Happily, that will never happen now. My son, Chris, graduated from Navy boot camp and basic submarine school, and he is now stationed in King's Bay, GA, assigned to the USS Tennessee. Wish the boy luck... he's still sort of clueless... :-D) I look forward to seeing all of you at Benning... There will be Donut Dollie Welcome Home Hugs all around!!!!!!!!! I'm moving today so my earthlink address may not respond for a few days... the other is at work. New address: 500 Laketower #77, Lexington, KY 40502, 859/268-1354. Love you guys...

Does anyone know what became of Captain Joe E Williams, commander of C/2/3 (from Ft. Benning to Nam by ship).
Does anyone remember him...anything about him that would aid in a search would be appreciated. Home town, how and from where did he get his commission.
I checked with all of his LTs, but no one seems to know anything concrete. Does anyone have an old order signed by him. I'm not sure if it is Joey or Joe E. or what.

Steve Simons <Simons6796@aol.com> from Minneapolis, Minnesota
3/7----Charlie----first and third----6/69 - 12/69----Jan 70
I wanted to stop by to offer my Christmas greetings to all of you that know me, and all my fellow grunts even if you don't know me. AS I explained in my last entry on this day last year, I was seriously wounded while patroling around the vicinity of Xuan Loc. If it wouldn't have been for men like Calvin Youngblood, Our machingunner Gonzalez, Lt. Adams, our medics and a man by the name of Rodger Baily, who helped me hold onto life until the choppers got there . If it weren't for those men, I would have died that day. I wouldn't have lived to produce and raise a son who is developing into an outstanding young man. Rodger Baily contacted me by e-mail last January, and introduced himself as the man whose hand I held as I myself tried to continue to breath after being shot through the abdomen, which also knocked off part of my spine. These men all risked their lives to help me to live. The only thing I can do is express my profound gratitude. I have no doubt, that due to the nature of the wound, I would have died before the dustoff came if it weren't for all of these men. I don't know any of them very well, but I think I have a pretty good idea of the kind of men they are, and I can truly say that it was an honor to be associated with these men, and with all of the other men in the field who heard the snapping of the incoming bullets on a somewhat regular basis.

Through this web site, I have also re-connected with Fred Grau, Michael Davidson, and Frank Matthews. These men were also with 3/7. I was also very proud to be associated with them.

One last thing - I have lost contact with Rodger Baily, who was in mortar platoon with 3/7. The e-mail address I have used before is no longer valid, as the address listed in the 3/7 roster. If anyone can help me with this, please let me know.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all of you and I wish the best for all of you. Please drop me a line if you get the chance.

Steve Simons
