Returned to the Nam a year ago, spent some time in Saigon and VungTao.
Wanted to get near BMB but the Vietnamise now are useing as a major training
center and no one is allowed near. Didn't see any bunkers or wire, only
a few of our old vehicles left. Yes guys the war is over, didn't detect
any anger during my visit. Most of the people we fought are dead now.
seven million people live in Saigon now and only two small hospitles.
All the people I talked to were children of VC. Funny how times change.
Of course maby all the ones that wern't VC were no longer needed.
God Bless and Peace

Today is an anniversary, of sorts, for me: I was drafted into the U.
S. Army on Halloween, October 1968, 32 years ago. My best friend at the
time reported with me to the Induction Station here in Seattle. He was
sent home by the doctor who judged that a knee injury he had sustained
in high school hadn't healed properly. I was put on a bus to Fort Lewis
that afternoon. I spent Halloween evening in a mess hall and reception
barrack at the North Fort Lewis Infantry Training Center and a scant 5
months later I was on my way to Vietnam. Trick or Treat! My best friend
then is still one of my best friends and fortunately for me I ended up
in the best infantry brigade in Vietnam. Take care everyone and my best
to all with whom I served in the 199th.

WITH THE 199TH. THEY ARE PRETTY GOOD AND I ENJOYED READING THEM BUT I
KNOW THE 2ND BN 40TH ARTY FIRED MANY MORE MISSIONS THAN WHAT ARE STATED
IN THE SUMMARIES. I WISH I COULD FIND OUT FROM ANY WEB SITE IF THERE
IS ONE ABOUT THE MISSIONS THAT WERE FIRED BY OUR ARTY BN. THANK YOU
FOR SETTING UP THIS WEB SITE AND I WISH ALL MEMBERS OF OUR GREAT BRIGADE

The Army Chief of Staff has launched an effort to build army combat
units into lighter forces that can deploy to trouble spots sooner with
a powerful punch. I would like to organize an effort to request the army
reactivate the 199th LIB along with it's original battalions whenever
they activate the light forces. One change the army might want to make
it provide a battalion of cavalry (17th) instead of a troop. Please contact
me if you are interested or you know of any efforts to do this elsewhere.

like to see this as vets honoring vets. If we don't who will?

This site is a GREAT SERVICE! (A BIG THANK YOU TO TOM WARD!!) Just
got a letter from Steve Kaiser from my unit who saw me on this sign in
page. Am trying to get all D Co. 3/7th grunts - 1969 - 1970 to attend
the 2001 reunion in Ft. Benning, GA. next Memorial Day weekend for a "Reunion
in a Reunion." It's about time us survivors got together (30 years is
long enough time to wait to get our acts together again!!) We can look
back now without as much pain and maybe with a few laughs and a few encouraging
words for one another. Spread the word! And, Oh, yeah......... WELCOME
