Carried an M-60 with echo recon. Lt Oakland Adams was my first platoon
leader and to this day he is the greatest leader of men I've ever met
or worked for. Our platoon would do anything for him. Firebase Mace brings
back memories for me. Being in the infantry was the most exciting thing
I've ever done. After 199th left RVN, I was re-assigned to 25th Inf Div
and spent some time in Tay Ninh (rocket city.

Hi Guys! Two things... I won't be leading the singing at the banquet
in May... my son is supposed to graduate that day. I will miss you all
tremendously. I'm going to have a wreath for the DDs who died. Would
someone be willing to lay it at the DD/SS woman after you lay the 199th
wreath? I will be at the Melbourne reunion, 4/6/00 - 4/10/00, and taking
part in the storytelling in the Women's Tent on Friday and the candlelight
service on Saturday morning at 9AM. If you can get there, I'd love to
see you!!! The 199th will always be "my guys," and I give great DDWHHs
(that's Donut Dollie Welcome Home Hugs for the unintiated). Next Wednesday,
I celebrate 55 years on earth, and it was my birthday in Nam that meant
the most. Would love to hear from you.

Hello to all. I have been working hard on my website. It has had a
lot of ex redcatchers visit. The site now has over 1000 pages. Since
I have my own domain I do not have a problem with space. I would like
to invite all who have not looked at the site to drop by. "For the ones
that have been by there may be new info that you did not see the last
time that you were by". After you stop by how about signing the guestbook
to let me and others know that you have been there. Some of the folks
that stop by have been able to contact friends that they knew over 30
years ago. That was another time and place. Take care and hope to see
all in DC in May. God Bless Clay

JUST STOPPING BY. DAMN, IT'S SO NICE TO HAVE THIS SITE TO REUNITE WITH
BUDDIES OR GET ACQUAINTED WITH THE SURVIVORS OF THOSE WE KNEW THERE.
IN LESS THAN A MONTH I HAVE TALKED TO SO MANY OLD BUDDIES AND JUST PEOPLE
THAT CARRY THE MEMORY OF ALL THOSE THAT OUR HEARTS WILL ALWAYS HOLD
SO DEAR. THIS SITE IS AND CONTINUE TO BE ONE OF THE BEST REVELATIONS
AT THIS TIME OF MY LIFE. I HAVE NEEDED THE "VENT" FOR SO MANY, MANY YEARS!!
I LOVE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU WHO REALLY BORE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF
SERVING FOR OUR COUNTRY, HOPING THAT WE WERE HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL MANKIND, AND WITHSTANDING THE RIDICULE THAT WAS
OUR "WELCOME HOME". I LOVE EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU "REDCATCHERS" AND
TRULY ALL OF THE VETS THAT EVER HAD TO FACE SUCH TREMENDOUS "DOWN TIME"
THAT WAR BRINGS UPON YOU. MAY GOD BLESS YOU, EACH AND EVERY ONE.

I checked out you Memorial Page to General Davison. I know
that he and his family all must
be very, very proud of the way you
have chosen to honor him. Additionally there is no doubt
that you
trully loved and respected this commander and leader. Any grunt would
be more than
willing to follow such a man into battle.
Your
expertise and artistic work in building web pages really blows my mind
away. It makes
me even more proud to have my poem included on such
a masterfully and professionally arranged
web page as yours. You
rightly and richly deserve the many web page awards that have been
bestowed
on you.
Clay, I want to personally thank you for having served,
loved and defended our Country at a
time when most people our age,
(including our sorry ass president and Hanoi Jane Fonda)
neither respected
or loved us for having done so. GOD BLESS YOU. Keep the faith.
Sincerest
and warmest regards.

Well Redcatchers, last night we heard the State of the Union, and I
was reminded of the fable, "The Emperors New Clothes". As you will recall,
the emperor stood naked before his people to show off his new clothes
and only a small child had the courage to tell the truth. Redcathers,
it is time to "saddle up" for the truth. As we saw the spirited speech,
were we to forget the man was a draft dodger? Were we to forget he was
getting a "Lewinsky" in the oval office while talking to a congressman
about sending troops into Bosnia? Are we supposed to ignore his selling
of American foreign policy to China for money? Are we to ignore that
no matter what the Chinese do, this president has embraced the Chinese
at every turn? Yes, the current emperor with the new clothes in the White
House, has stood before us. Are we going to recognize the truth and realize
the man's name will replace Benedict Arnold in the coming years. Be ever
alert and let's never elect another Clinton. The Vietnam Veteran's vote
does count for something. Take care my fellow countrymen.

I have never looked into this site previously, but I am glad I have
now taken the time to do so. I was injured in an operation in "The Pineapples"
on Jan 25,69. I am not proud of the fact that I do not remember many
of the great people that helped me during that difficult time. I lost
my right leg below the knee and resulting scar and tissue loss to my right
arm and thigh from a command detonated land mine. I would like to hear
from anyone that may rememebr me or the incident. Years after have been
clouded by way to much alcohol and pain killers at Valley Forge General
Hospital in PA. Not a complete loss, I have spent many years of productivity
and raised four great sons and have a lovely and understanding wife.
I continued to work and keep my Viet Nam "Experience" to myself. Now
retired and living in Florida (like who isn't????) I too, am still "haunted"
by Silent Night as I have read many others are. My next experience will
be to visit "The Wall", which I still have not done and am not proud to
say so. good luck to everyone and I sincerely hope the new millenium
and year will be the continuation of a very long healing process for all
of us.

Viet Nam, WOW! Hardest working camping trip I've ever been on! I wish
my brothers peace and happiness. May we be the legacy of how a misguided
foreign policy can screw up an entire generation. I am doing fine, I have
a wonderful family and a well paying job, but I pass the many homeless
everyday, so many my age. The stat is: 33% of the homeless are Viet Nam
veterans. Like blighted grapes on the vine, your heart goes out to them.

Brothers of the 199th - I was a member of the 2/47th Mechanized Infantry
9th Division. On Jan 31, 1968 in Bien Hoa Prov. the first day of the
Tet Offensive I encountered some of the 199th before day light in the
village of Ho Nai. One KIA in particular which I found in a Cemetary.
I don't think that a day goes by that I don't wonder what his name could
have been. I also almost ran over a first Sgt. on HWY 1 waving his arms
to stop our column (armored personnel Carriers) just a few hundred yards
from Ho Nai. I wonder if anyone could send me an e-mail with the name
of the soldier who was KIA in that cemetary. In "brotherhood" Sgt. Russ

Found my diary from

67. While waiting
for our flight to the 87th, me, Mark Young and
Rob Thomas went to AnTan, outside Chu Lai and got caught in an
OFF
LIMITS establishment. I got caught with my pants around my ankles and
got an Article15. The 15 followed
me to the 87th and the CO Maj Tate
issued it. My platoon Sgt.was names McCanns and I believe the Sq.Leader
was Sp4 Rodgers. The guy I worked with in the R&U yard was named Geed.
New Plt.Sgt in Nov Sgt Harris.
Hope you guys don't mind me writing
a few excerts every now and then.
