Have been checking this great site regularly for the last year. Always something new. I served with the 71st LRRPs 68-69. I remember working from firebase Barbra that was in the Pineapples AO. I think Barbara is one of the firebases listed as unknown. It was by a river or canal big enough for Navy PBRs to reach. I remember my recon team being transported by these boats to and from firebase Barbara to or missions in the Pineapples. There was a blown up bridge by the base along with some kind of ARVN outpost. I know there was a firebase named Barbara, I was there. I got pictures! Love this site. Keep up the good work.

Hi Folks, Just wanted to let you know that I have Jim McDonald's page up with the help of Dave Foose and others. Here is an piece from the article. It is Thursday morning, July 22, 1998, opening day of Jim's Java in the Bonneville Power Administration lobby. Operating the cart is the first job McDonald's had since May 23, 1967, the day shrapnel from a Viet Cong rifle grenade tore through his brain. Jim was a member of 3rd Platoon, Charlie Company 2/3rd Inf. If you knew Jim please stop by and visit his page please sign his guestbook and I will get your names to him. Also I have a new page about Fireball Aviation Section. If any ex Pilots, Crewchief's and Maintenance personnel have anything that you would like to add please send it to the above address or put it in the guestbook. I am trying to get all the pilots names with their callsigns so with the little info on the internet about Fireball Aviation Section I need all the help I can get to put new Info on the page. Thanks Clay

Thanks again Tom for making this site so Redcatchers can find each other. By the way, for you internet FNG's ( not a slur just trying to help)
if you use the search engine on the Redcatcher Homepage (go to top of this page and click on Back to Redcatcher)
you can search this guestbook by names, unit, hometowns etc. After you get to a page on this site from your search
use your browser's find option (click on Edit at top of screen then choose Find from drop down menu) then type in
the same keyword you typed before. Who could ask for a better database. Thanks again Tom keep up the good work.

Hi Redcatchers. Great Site!
I served in Headquarters Detachment, 7th Support Battalion from Apr 68-69. Night time radio and switchboard operator (worked all night - tried to sleep all day). All of you that pulled guard duty at Frenzel Jones and all the infantry, cav and other special units probably made your hourly night sit-com reports to me. Rotated back as NCOIC (Sgt E-5) of communications HQ&HQ Detachment, 7th Support Battalion - April'69. Looking for, and great to get emial from, those that served with me.

Jack Wilson, Lance Oyler, and I were reassigned from Germany to Fort Benning in June or July of 1966, (we were all medics) to help form the 199th LIB. We were all with Co A, 4th Bn 12th Inf. from inception to 1967 in Vietnam when we rotated out. As I write this, I am sitiing in the house Lance oyler lives in in Salem Oregon. We know where Jim Rothblatt lives Renolds live. However we are unaware of where the last medic to be found is located. His name is Jack (really John) L. Wilson. He was the Senior Medic for Co. A 4/12 in 1966 and 1967. He would have been there when the Chaplin won the MOH. We have all searched for him for years and have had no luck in finding him. Do any of you know his whereabouts???? Please advise if you do. Notify Lance at Tegnerc@aol,com, Jim Rothblatt at Redleef@gte.net, or myself at dochamm@Juno.com. We would all appreciate any information or a way to contact Jack if any of you know. Thank you. John A. Hamm

Need to Find *** Anyone in B 4/12th May 8 1968 Binh Tri Dong battle. Need to find anyone who remembers the gunship that fired wide and the 2.75 rocket impacted in the ditch in the CP area hitting the RTO (myself), the CO and Fwd. Observer. B Co. medic was told I was DOA at 93rd evac, obviously I wasn't. Does anyone know which gunship unit was firing support that day ?. I have checked with 3/17th Air Cav and they don't think they were. I don't remember seeing the hueys insignia and hope someone else does. I need to contact this gunship crew, they were probably told they had KIA some friendlies, when they didn't. The gunship pass was about a half hour to hour before the 4 to 6 F100 bombing and cannon runs over our positions. If anyone has any info, email me. Thanks

Other information on Doug was that he was born in Scotland and had 6 years with the Air Force before joining Army in 1967.
Doug probably had enough time to retire in early '80s. His wife had family in the Riverdale section of New York City.

I served in 3rd platoon C CO. 2/3 Inf from 1 April 68 to 5 Dec 68. I would love to here from anyone from that era or unit.

I would also like to here from anyone that has made a return trip to VN. I am making a trip back between 20 Sep 99 to 5 Oct 99. Some of the places I plan on seeing are the PF Compound at Binh Chanh, my first ambush site, and the location were I was first wounded and three others were killed by a booby trap; The Bein Dinh Bridge where I was wounded the second time and ultimately evacuated from VN; The Fishnet Factory and Cholon and the site of a major firefight at the paint factory. I also plan on seeing other parts of VN that I was not able to see in 1968. I plan on slowly traveling from Saigon (I'll never be able to call it Ho Chi Minh city) to Hanoi.

God Bless you all.

Craig R. Singer <csinger@palihost.state.pa.us> from kersey, pa
I served in RVN Jan 69-Jan 70 as an 11B with Co A, 1st bn, 6th Inf, 198th LIB, "(Gunfighters)" Americal Division west of Chu Lai, I Corp. Jerry Sain, a class mate and bset friend of mine, played football together, graduated in 1966, was killed while serving with the 199th on Jan 21, 1970, six days after I got home and left the Army. Jerry served with Co C, 4th Bn, 12th Inf, 199th LIB and was killed on FSB Nancy on 21 Jan 70 while unloading mortar rounds, according to the letter I received from the Dept of the Army and signed by Cpt Michael F. Purdy. I would really like to know the circumstances of Jerry's death (the true story) from anyone who served with Jerry and knew what happened. I lost four men under my command while a squad leader and plt sgt with the Gunfighters and still miss them every day as I do Jerry. Hope there is someone out there who served with the 199th who can help out. Thanks. Peace.

Craig

Tom. Revisiting again. Anyone who wants to see what a web site is suppose to be only needs to visit the Redcatcher!!
Over the last few months I have searched the web and compiled an Excel sheet on the 199th. It amazed me of the number of "alumni" from the Brigade. This summer I made it to Fla and visited with Doc Mullins (C/5/12)class of 68.
Already setting aside for the reunion of 2000.
